On this year, the 100th anniversary of the Marian Apparitions in Fatima, its commemoration marks a unique opportunity for pilgrims all over the world to journey to Portugal and take part in the celebration of this truly special event. Visit the magnificent churches of Portugal and Spain, and witness the enriching Baroque, Gothic, and Romanesque architecture that they have to offer. On the other hand, you will also visit the physically mundane, but the spiritually significant; the birthplace of the Shepherd Children, their burial place, their final resting place, and the monastery where Sister Lucia spent most of her adult life.

As you plunge into this Pilgrimage that follows the footsteps of Jacinta and Francisco Marto from their birth to their death, and Sister Lucia into adulthood, you will end up with a deeper appreciation of spirituality the Blessed Mother’s request to the children entails.

Another paragraph.

Your Pilgrimage begins with a visit to the Orphanage of Our Lady of Miracles, where the child Jacinta spent her last days. Nearby, you will also see the Hospital Dona Estefania where Jacinta underwent an operation where a rib was removed – among other things – all while suffering through the operation that did not have general anesthesia.

The next day. you will be in Fatima, standing on the very ground where a century prior, the biggest miracle recognized by the church after Jesus Christ’s resurrection officially occurred. Contemplate the solemnity of this momentous event, and join in the candlelight procession that follows the evening rosary.

You will proceed to Santarem to visit a miraculous bleeding host that has been there for 700 years, then visit Batalha and Alcobaca Monasteries, which boasts impressive gothic style buildings. From there, you will head to Coimbra, the former capital city of Portugal. On your way to Braga, you will pass by Guimarães, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a well-preserved medieval settlement, complete with cobbled roads, castles, and maintained medieval architecture. In Braga, you will see the beautiful medieval Basilica of Bom Jesus. Continue onward to Santiago de Compostela, one of the most famous pilgrimage spots of the Catholic world.

From Santiago, head for Pontevedra, and visit the convent where the Blessed Mother appeared to Sister Lucia where she showed Sister Lucia a heart encircled by thorns. At this point, the Virgin Mary is said to have set the parameters of the Five First Saturday Devotion. Afterwards, visit the magnificent Viana Do Castelo, then proceed to Povoa de Varzim and familiarize yourselves with Blessed Alexandrinha of Balazar, a Portuguese mystic and victim soul. Located in the same compound is a chapel which houses a Cross, which according to tradition, had mysteriously appeared from the ground in 1832.

Take a guided tour of Aljustrel for Stations of the Cross and visit the Shrine of the Apparitions of Our Lady and the angels, then visit the homes of the three children, Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia. Hear mass at the Parish Church of Fatima where the three shepherd children were baptized, and where they would attend mass with their relatives and neighbors. In this parish church you will find the humble baptismal font where the three children were baptized.

Return to Fatima to attend the International meeting of Grupo da Imaculada, a group wholly devoted to Our Lady of Fatima, the members of which come from all corners of the world. Finally, wind down in Lisbon, and immerse yourselves in the many churches that the city has to offer.
